Magnesium is involved in over 600 cellular reactions and 300 enzymatic processes in the human body. There is an overall magnesium deficiency in the general population, with 68% of American adults not meeting the recommended daily intake.
We use pure Aquamin™ magnesium that is naturally sourced from seawater. Aquamin is bioavailable, ready to be absorbed and used by your body.*58

Magnesium is an essential cofactor in hundreds of enzyme processes throughout the human body, including but not limited to nerve function, muscle health, blood pressure regulation, energy production, antioxidant production, DNA synthesis, and bone development.*
Maintaining adequate levels of magnesium often results in higher bone mineral density. Greater bone density leads to a reduced likelihood of damage to bones, including fractures and osteoporosis. Magnesium supplementation can be helpful to women as they age and are less likely to retain magnesium in the body.*60
An initial review of studies has shown that magnesium may have a positive effect on reducing stress and anxiety while promoting a feeling of calm.61 This effect may be related to magnesium’s support for neurological health.*
In addition to relieving muscle cramping, maintaining adequate levels of magnesium and other minerals can assist in regulating healthy blood pressure.* According to the American Heart Association, ingesting 300 milligrams of magnesium daily for one month was shown to help in reducing blood pressure.62
Magnesium supports a wide array of processes inside the human body. Along with calcium, magnesium is vital to bone health and provides support for bone density especially through the hips and spine.* Good bone density can help to prevent fractures and osteoporosis.* Plus, magnesium provides other benefits for an active lifestyle, encouraging good energy levels, reducing muscle cramps, and relieving feelings of tension or stress.*

Aquamin, a form of magnesium derived naturally from seawater off the Irish coast, also contains 72 trace minerals. In a study designed to determine its bioavailability compared to other forms of magnesium, Aquamin demonstrated similar bioavailability to magnesium chloride and greater bioavailability than magnesium oxide. It offers the same benefits as other types of magnesium in a clean, natural form. The trace minerals included may also contribute additional benefits.
Calcium stimulates muscle cells to contract, while magnesium relaxes the cells back to their resting state. For this reason, magnesium deficiency may be the cause of the excessive muscle contraction that leads to cramps and spasms. Magnesium supplements are often recommended to people who experience frequent cramps, and it may also help to alleviate symptoms of PMS. Studies haven’t shown conclusive evidence that magnesium can treat leg cramps, however, and they may be caused by more than one mineral deficiency.
Most forms of magnesium available in supplement form are chelated, which means that magnesium atoms bind to another atom or molecule at more than one attachment point. Chelated magnesium supplements include magnesium citrate and magnesium malate. Existing research suggests that chelated forms are only slightly better absorbed than non-chelated magnesium supplements like magnesium chloride and magnesium oxide. The Aquamin magnesium used in NatureWise softgels, however, is combined with organic olive oil for improved absorption by the body.
The signs of magnesium deficiency can range from a decrease in appetite to personality changes and an irregular heartbeat. They may include nausea and vomiting, weakness, numbness, and muscle cramps and spasms.1
Magnesium is responsible for regulating the neurotransmitters that send signals back and forth throughout the brain and the nervous system. It also influences melatonin, a hormone that controls the body’s sleep cycles. Additionally, magnesium binds to GABA receptors. GABA, or gamma-aminobutyric acid, plays an important role in subduing activity throughout the nerves to help prepare the body to fall asleep.

The body’s ability to retain magnesium may diminish with age. Magnesium deficiency can result in muscle cramps, low energy, feelings of tension, or nausea.59 If you’re experiencing these symptoms, talk to your doctor about how a magnesium supplement may help improve day-to-day functionality and overall wellness.
Muscle cramping can occur due to a variety of reasons, including depletion of potassium, calcium, or magnesium. Supplementing with magnesium may relieve muscle cramping or be one step in managing a multi-cause symptom.*
Low magnesium levels in the bloodstream can be a contributing factor to migraine headaches.* Because a variety of factors may cause migraines, talk to your doctor to determine if magnesium supplementation is the most effective solution for your migraine discomfort.
Magnesium is a crucial factor in many cellular processes, including those that take place in the cardiovascular system. Magnesium may help maximize blood vessel function and help protect the heart from certain stressors.*63

Magnesium is necessary for human health but must come from dietary sources. Many adults may not receive enough magnesium from food alone. NatureWise magnesium softgels are a simple, pure, and convenient way to boost magnesium levels and support hundreds of dietary and enzymatic processes that are vital to ongoing whole-body wellness.*
